Labour for Palestine - Canada condemns the US war of aggression on Venezuela

On the morning of January 3rd, American forces bombed several sites in Venezuela and carried out an operation that kidnapped President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. This has come after years of US sanctions and months of military strikes on Venezuelan territory and vessels, culminating in the repeated seizure of oil tankers. These actions have violated Venezuela’s sovereignty and risks the stability of the entire region of Latin America.

Labour for Palestine - Canada completely rejects US imperialist aims in Venezuela and Latin America. Donald Trump and the American government have made their intentions clear -- to renew the US’s military hegemony over the Western Hemisphere and to seize the oil and other natural resources of Venezuela. This attack was followed by an exceedingly weak statement from the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anita Anand. Once again, the Canadian government remains complicit in the crimes of the US empire.

We know full well that the intentions of the US are to destabilize, exploit, and create proxy-states that ally themselves with American imperialism and support the zionist project. María Corina Machado, the Venezuelan opposition leader recently awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, has made it clear that she intends to make Venezuela an ally to Israel if the government of Venezuela is overthrown and the opposition comes to power.

We demand the immediate release of President Nicolas Maduro and First-Lady Cilia Flores. We call on all of our supporters, friends, and comrades, to rally for Venezuela and against the imperialist aggression of the United States, with the complicity of our own liberal government and ruling class.
