No to Zionist-US War on Iran
Labour for Palestine condemns the US-Israeli attacks and war of aggression against Iran, and the Canadian Government’s shameful support for it. This is an illegal, imperialist regime change effort against a sovereign country that has nothing to do with concern for the Iranian people who are bearing the brunt of the brutal US assault. The labour movement in Canada cannot sit idle while faced with this global threat.
The attack on February 28th, 2026 happened in a geopolitical context where US imperialism is desperate to recapture its diminishing power, and also serve Israel’s settler-colonial expansionist drive in the region.
While US imperialism and its allies launch wars of conquest against sovereign states and peoples, they also intensify the class war at home by undermining unions, and rendering marginalized communities, and the broader working class more precarious. All in the service of a global world older that privileges corporate profits at the expense of justice and genuine democracy.
The attacks on Iran, Venezuela and Cuba are designed to destroy countries with clear anti-imperialist positions, in part because they have provided moral, political and material support for the Palestinian liberation struggle over the past few decades. These attacks are designed to cement US imperialist hegemony over natural resources and in strategically located countries to bolster a dying US empire under the weight of the internal moral, political and economic contradictions that were fully exposed by the Epstein files.
As labour internationalists in an imperialist, settler-colonial state, our task is to expose the complicity and role of the Canadian state and ruling classes in these illegal and dangerous wars of aggression. It is our duty to stand in solidarity with people around the world who are fighting for self determination against US-Zionist imperialist wars and hegemony. It is our responsibility to determine our role to intensify our struggles for fundamental social and political change in Canada, and among other western imperialist states, to shift the balance of power in the interest of working people at home and across the globe.
We call on our activists and supporters to join forces with anti-war, anti-imperialist peace activists in opposing this latest imperialist war against Iran. We must call on Prime Minister Carney to stop pandering to the US, to be a voice for de-escalation and peace, for the Canadian Government to change direction and invest in public services such as healthcare, education and social services instead of wasting billions on building a military-industrial complex.
